Ordinarius, Brazil’s award-winning contemporary vocal group, will be making their U.S. debut in January 2019, which will include a stop at The Temple Theater in Des Moines on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Ordinarius features three female and three male singers, backed by a hand percussionist. Primarily an a capella group, they also use guitar and ukulele to round out their sound. All their complex, multi-layered arrangements are the work of group founder and primary male vocalist, Augusto Ordine. With vibrant harmonies set to tropical rhythms and a joyous stage show, Ordinarius has breathed new life into Brazil’s most beloved songs. They first achieved recognition for their updated arrangements of traditional choros. Their current show focuses on the songs of Carmen Miranda, and the creative costumes and staging that made Carmen an unforgettable star and larger-than-life personality throughout North America.
