“Kinky Boots” dinner and performance to be held Jan. 31 in Ames

The acclaimed Broadway performance of “Kinky Boots,” the heartwarming true story of two people with nothing in common (or so they think), will hit the Stephens Auditorium stage in Ames on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m.  The story is of Charlie, a factory owner struggling to save his family business; and Lola, a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea, embracing their differences and creating a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen. But in the end, their most sensational achievement is their friendship. Featuring 16 original songs by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, a book by theater legend Harvey Fierstein and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell. Tickets available at the Iowa State Center Ticket Office or at www.ticketmaster.com.

A pre-show dinner will be held at the Scheman Building. Social time will be 5:30 – 6 p.m., followed by a dinner from 6-7 p.m. Tickets available at the Iowa State Center Ticket Office or at www.center.iastate.edu/pre-show-dining for $32 (price includes one drink ticket). Each dining experience includes salad, entrée, starch, vegetable, dessert and one drink ticket for wine or beer.  The menu includes various foods featuring Kinky brand vodka, served buffet style. Vodka lime pork chops, drunken fried chicken, adult mac and cheese, vodka root rice pilaf, mandarin orange and goat cheese salad with citrus vodka vinaigrette, and kinky pineapple mango chutney.
