One Night of Queen rescheduled at Wild Rose Casino and Resort
The popular Queen tribute act was due to appear at the venue in Jefferson on July 18 this year, but they will now perform on April 3 2021, instead. People who had tickets for the original date are advised they do not need to do anything at all, their previous tickets will be valid for the new show. If anyone is unable to attend the revised date, they can apply for a refund.
One Night of Queen has toured around the world performing at theaters, arenas and festivals to sell-out crowds in the US, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, New Zealand and South Africa. Bandwagon describe how lead man Gary Mullen sounds uncannily like Freddie Mercury, the enigmatic frontman who wowed audiences in the eighties. Mullen first used his skills to good effect by winning ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ over in the UK, before going on to make a living performing as Mercury. Music fans in Iowa are in for a treat when he finally brings his show to Greene County, even if they are being forced to wait a little longer than anticipated.
The Wild Rose Casino and Resort recently announced it was reopening after the recent troubles, 75 days after last closing its doors. Plenty of games will still be available and there will be facilities for dining, albeit on a smaller scale than before due to social distancing rules. Whilst music events such as Bowman, Pickney and Evans are set for later in the year, immediate events such as One Night of Queen has had to be rescheduled.
The resort does have a history of hosting great gigs. Last year, they hosted Scott Stapp as well as the Weapons of Anew and Great White. Casinos have come to diversify their offerings in recent years – the music industry has always had strong links with the Las Vegas scene, but across the US establishments have looked to supplement their key economic drivers.
A casino’s core business is, of course, gaming, where they offer chances for customers to win big on a variety of games and machines. Increasingly, the online market has placed pressure upon the brick and mortar casinos to come up with better offers, be it music or huge wins from their games. Whilst winning at home online is all well and good, some of the figures taken home by customers at proper casinos can be eye watering, and that keeps them coming back. Gala Spins explains how a software engineer from Los Angeles scooped $39.7m at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in 2003 – the single biggest win on record. Whilst those sorts of prizes do keep some coming back, alternative events also keep the venues full of customers, albeit looking for a different type of entertainment. And none more so than the best rock bands the music scene has to offer.
It will certainly be a busy night when Mullens’ show touches down. He is due to go through a repertoire of Queen’s greatest hit, including A Kind of Magic, I Want to Break Free and of course, Bohemian Rhapsody. As one of the popular and talented Queen tribute acts in the world today, Iowa music fans are going to be in for a treat, eventually.
