The Pretenders coming to Ames July 19
The Pretenders will return to Iowa after a nine-year absence to perform at Stephens Auditorium in Ames on Thursday, July 19. The group, with chart-topping hits like “Back on the Chain Gang,” “I’ll Stand By You” and “Don’t Get Me Wrong,” released their first album in eight years with 2016’s “Alone,” nearly four decades after the release of their 1980 debut album.
The album and tour mark vocalist Chrissie Hynde’s first musical effort since her 2015 memoir, “Reckless: My Life As A Pretender,” which was hailed by The New York Times upon its release as “honest and distinctive … first and foremost, a love letter to rock and roll.”
